    The How Matters: Prioritizing Growth, Not Results, in Education

    Abstract

    This talk will focus on how students can use AI without sacrificing the learning, persistence, and critical-thinking skills education is meant to develop. Drawing on my experience learning before and after generative AI, I will discuss why genuine growth matters more than grades or completed assignments.

    Audrey Norris is an award-winning SkillsUSA competitor, former national officer, and graduate of Boise State University’s Games, Interactive Media, and Mobile Technology program. An aspiring game developer, she advocates for student leadership, technology literacy, and career and technical education.

    Timberlab Vertical Integration: How AI and Technology Are Shaping the Future of Construction

    Abstract

    Timberlab combines AI, digital construction, and mass-timber workflows to connect design, fabrication, and construction. This talk will focus on how technology can preserve skilled-trade knowledge, improve coordination, and create new career opportunities for the next generation of builders.

    Bio

    Justin Kwong is an Assistant VDC Manager at Timberlab specializing in mass-timber digital construction, trade coordination, and construction operations. An Oregon State University civil engineering graduate and ACE Program co-captain, he is passionate about mentorship, workforce development, and bridging traditional craftsmanship with emerging technology.

    The Human in the Loop: AI Literacy for the Next Generation

    Abstract

    This talk will help demystify how modern AI works and why it should not be confused with human understanding. We will discuss why foundational knowledge and critical thinking remain essential for evaluating AI-generated information and using these powerful tools responsibly.

    Judson Birkel is an award-winning computer science educator at South Salem High School and the 2026 TechStart Educator of the Year. He teaches through game development, robotics, and cybersecurity and trains educators in AI literacy, classroom integration, student privacy, and responsible technology use.
